Meditation with Girija

Namaste

Welcome to my movement and meditation workshops that aim to help you find an inner source of self-regulation (svarājya), confidence and wellbeing. Spiritual seekers will feel particularly at home, as that approach was the source and remains the foundation of my own path.

Healing comes from within, and in my workshops, you will move inwards, naturally and without forcing or struggle. In my workshops, bringing our energy first into a happy open state includes easy, gentle physical movements, followed by focus, concentration and awareness development practices that lead towards the state of meditation (dhyāna). The workshops thus follow a natural upwards and inwards flow, from energising happiness towards conscious contentment.

The flow of practices can be easily learned and practised at home.

Thank you.

In-person six-week meditation and conscious living course

Overview : Over the course of six weeks, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of an effective and stress-free meditation to enable you to overcome some of the obstacles to and during meditation to gain a deeper experience and more clarity on the process. The process taught is based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, an ancient and foundational text for yoga and meditation, which outlines the fundamental processes and outcomes of yoga and meditation practice.

“Girija is brilliant in delivering this course. I’ve had one lesson with her and it’s so calming. … I would highly recommend these sessions…” (Instagram)

“Your voice is so calming. I felt very supported.” (In person)

“The best meditation I’ve ever had.” (In person)

“If I compared my (Chakra Shuddhi) meditation session to being a tourist, I would feel in very safe hands with you as a guide.” (In person)

Yoga (union with your Divine Self or Consciousness) is not only a seated practice. In this course, which is based on the Ashtanga (eight limbed) Yoga outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (est 489BC), participants learn how yoga necessarily stretches into our active life and that the way in which we live our life and think our thoughts affects our meditation practice and influences the effectiveness of our practice.

The six workshops are divided into meditation practice and theory on conscious living, but the theory is practice too, with lived experiential exercises to bring the learning alive and embed course learnings deeply into memory.

Take from these workshops methods to rest the body, restore your mind and emotions, move closer to your inner self and soul, and feel ever more like the master of yourself and your life.

What is Meditation?

“Meditation is a method of mental training, which has been developed for enhancing and maintaining human wellbeing and life satisfaction…it is a family of self-regulation practices that focus on training attention and awareness in order to bring mental processes under greater voluntary control and thereby foster general mental wellbeing and development and/or specific capacities such as calm, clarity, and concentration”

Meditation methods commonly disseminated in western society today stem from ancient Hindu and Buddhist sources. These methods aimed to discover an underlying ocean of consciousness by freeing our perception from distracting ripples of mental narratives and emotional reactions. The final goal is to see and become our true Self in all its glory and peace.

To Top

“Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of consciousness… Then the seer/soul rests in his own true nature”

Patanjali Yoga Sutras (est. 489BC)

The true Self, the real You (whether or not you believe in a soul), is consciousness. At the most superior level, the nature of this consciousness is pure being, pure consciousness and pure bliss. Sat-Chit-Ananda (Saccidananda) is the Sanskrit term for it. It is all-knowing, blissful, peaceful and powerful. This is why, as we move closer to it through stilling our superficial layers of consciousness through Meditation, we begin to experience positive change. It is similar to how we begin to feel warmer as we move towards a log fire. It is the ultimate reason for why ‘healing comes from within’.

The aim of Meditation is to not only know but experience and become this ultimate consciousness. Through regular practice over time, its gifts are unearthed. The ultimate result is oneness with the true Self or Pure Awareness. You then have sva-rājya, self-mastery, over your nature and your life.

Before this stage, many improvements to your self-experience may flow from Meditation practices, such as:

lightheartedness

freedom (emotional and mental)

emotional balance

intuitive guidance

self-awareness

fearlessness

clarity

joy

confidence

happiness

contentment

a sense of beauty

inner peace

purpose

Persistence in practice is worthwhile. For example, if you have a bad temper or nervous disposition, consistent training can lead to changes such as increased awareness and a natural ability to remain calm, a natural tendency to self-control and reflective responses.

Contraindications (negative side effects) of meditation include the rising up of difficult thoughts or emotions, physical twitching or discomfort during practice. These are addressed by a number of methods, which will be discussed during class.

Why Guided Meditation?

Regular practice will have steady results, sporadic practice will have sporadic results

BKS Iyengar (paraphrased)

Guided meditation is a precious resource, when you find the right guide or facilitator for you.

A guide will instruct you in the practice of meditation, but also help you to maintain a regular practice and ensure that you are supported in prioritising actions – such as meditation practice – that are in alignment with your personal values.

Other valuable benefits of having a meditation guide is that they will keep important points of form and principle to the front of your awareness during each session; their presence and example help you to direct your lifestyle to support your concentration skills and the extraordinary self-development these will allow; and, all-importantly, the guide is a living, physically present example that you are not alone in prioritising your spiritual and mental development – you have a network of like-minded people around you, who are taking this selfsame journey.

Even experienced meditators find that to have a guide holding space for them in which their entire system has permission to let go, be quiet and dive deep has immense value over meditating alone.

Your Teacher – Girija

Hello! My life has been diverse, in career, location and lifestyle. But the two consistent elements throughout have been my dedication to the transformation of consciousness and to yogic science as the method to achieve that transformation. My core values are friendliness, commitment and positivity.

Workshop aims and structure

My meditation workshops aim at opening the path that leads to meditation. The path should be a sunlit one: happy and light, easy and flowing, while providing benefits of a developing balance, stability, calm, sense of wellbeing, emotional regulation and overall self-mastery.

The structure of my meditation workshops is based on the concept developed by Master Dev OM (devom.org), which incorporates our natural dynamic energy – joy, courage, laughter, confidence, drive – to ensure that there is no suppression of this energy, and also to gain its cooperation rather than its resistance during the quiet aspects of the practice, which require physical stillness. My workshops therefore incorporate gentle physical movement, music and interaction.

My workshops also incorporate practises that develop friendliness, self-love, openness, contentment and confidence, which will not only make life feel better but provide the foundation for meditative practises such as mindfulness – the turning of our senses away from distractions to enable a calm, peaceful, clear state of awareness.
